It’s time for your child to be seen for what they can do.
Does your child have a diagnosis of dyslexia, ADHD, autism, dyspraxia or dyscalculia?
Then it’s likely you’ve cried while reading their diagnosis reports.
Because most reports are written from a clinical perspective. They are designed to highlight what your child can’t do.
It’s hard to feel hopeful about your child’s future when you are only given their deficits.
Your child:
➜ Doesn’t enjoys school
➜ Uses words such as ‘stupid’ or ‘dumb’ to describe themselves.
➜ Thinks the teachers are mean to them.
➜ Struggles in lessons.
➜ Feels frustrated and angry.
You:
➜ Are exhausted fighting for your child’s needs.
➜ Feel heartbroken that your child is misunderstood.
➜ Feel all the weight is on your shoulders to help your child.
➜ Want teachers to see the wonderful child that you can see.
➜ Want to feel hopeful and positive about your child’s future.
It’s time for an assessment that gives you hope.
What is a strength-based assessment?
A strength based assessment identifies what makes your child tick. We explore your child’s learning preferences, specific interests, and conditions where they are at their personal best to gather a picture of who they are.
This collaborative process recognises your child’s unique gifts and what they require for a wonderful learning experience.
How can I use this assessment?
The strength based assessment gives you a positive perspective on your child’s education, and the knowledge of how to advocate for their strengths and talents.
You will receive a detailed report and presentation highlighting the profile of your unique student, and suggestions for talent development opportunities and learning growth.
Families frequently use these learning profiles for school advocacy, in EHCP meetings, and in school assessment meetings. Strength based assessments are also used in preparing enrichment activities that nurture your child’s love of learning.
Will this assessment be taken seriously by my child’s school?
Yes. The strength-based assessment utilises the Suite of Tools™, a research-based methodology developed by Dr. Susan Baum and Dr. Robin Schader at the Bridges 2e Center for Research and Professional Development in California.
All collaborative conversations following your assessment will take place with Sophie Ricard who holds a Master’s Degree in Education and is a Doctoral student in Cognitive Diversity.
Your child’s strengths and talents are the key to their future.
I’m Sophie, founder of Square Peg Parenting.
I’m here to share practical and easy to follow solutions to help you help your child feel their best.
I founded Square Peg after working for over 20 years with kids struggling in the classroom, and parents struggling at home. I found that parents of neurodivergent kids often feel unsupported and alone. They feel that all the weight to help their child is on their shoulders to fit their square peg kid into round holes.
I want to help you feel empowered and supported to raise your neurodivergent child to feel their best, and feel confident in who they are.
A strength-based assessment allows…
✔ Your child to feel confident in who they are.
✔ You to provide learning experiences that are meaningful for your child.
✔ Your child’s teacher to understand how to create a positive and effective learning experience for your child.

I work with a small number of families each month to ensure that your family and your child are really listened to.

While a collaborative process will give the most valuable results, we can go ahead with the assessment without feedback from your child's school and create a positive and rewarding report.
I am very good at connecting with schools to work together. I usually find that teachers and school leaders and interested and curious about the strength based assessment and find value in taking part.

Many neurodivergent children are used to being seen based on what they can't do. Another assessment can feel overwhelming.
Most children enjoy the strength based assessment process. They finally feel listened to and finally feel seen.
We will work together to uncover the root of your child's refusal, and how we can make adjustments to ensure the process feels comfortable for them.
-
Unfortunately, looking at a neurodivergent or SEN child from a strength based perspective is not common in the UK. I understand you may have further questions and want to talk through the process.
